Psalms

Chapter 53

  1. 1

    (To the choir-master. For stringed instruments. A maskil. Of David,

  2. 2

    when the men of Ziph told Saul that David was in hiding among them.)

  3. 3

    Lord, by the virtue of thy name deliver me, let thy sovereign power grant me redress;

  4. 4

    give a hearing, Lord, to my plea; let me speak, and know thou art listening.

  5. 5

    Scornful foes take arms against me, fierce foes that grudge me life itself, with no thought of God to check them.

  6. 6

    Ah, but God is here to help me; the Lord has my safety in his keeping.

  7. 7

    Let the blow recoil on my persecutors; ever faithful to thy word, do thou overthrow them.

  8. 8

    So will I joyfully offer thee sacrifice, and praise thy name, Lord, as praised it must ever be;

  9. 9

    who else has delivered me from all peril, and let me see the downfall of my enemies?
