1 Corinthians

Chapter 12

  1. 1

    Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

  2. 2

    You know that when you were Gentiles, you went to dumb idols according as you were led.

  3. 3

    Wherefore I give you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God says "Anathema" to Jesus. And no one can say "Jesus is Lord," except in the Holy Spirit.

  4. 4

    Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;

  5. 5

    and there are varieties of ministries, but the same Lord;

  6. 6

    and there are varieties of workings, but the same God, who works all things in all.

  7. 7

    Now the manifestation of the Spirit is given to everyone for profit.

  8. 8

    To one through the Spirit is given the utterance of wisdom; and to another the utterance of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;

  9. 9

    to another faith, in the same Spirit; to another the gift of healing, in the one Spirit;

  10. 10

    to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another the distinguishing of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues.

  11. 11

    But all these things are the work of one and the same Spirit, who allots to everyone according as he will.

  12. 12

    For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, many as they are, form one body, so also is it with Christ.

  13. 13

    For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, whether slave or free; and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.

  14. 14

    For the body is not one member, but many.

  15. 15

    If the foot says, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body?

  16. 16

    And if the ear says, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body?

  17. 17

    If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole body were hearing, where would be the smelling?

  18. 18

    But as it is, God has set the members, each of them, in the body as he willed.

  19. 19

    Now if they were all one member, where would the body be?

  20. 20

    But as it is, there are indeed many members, yet but one body.

  21. 21

    And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I do not need thy help"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you."

  22. 22

    Nay, much rather, those that seem the more feeble members of the body are more necessary;

  23. 23

    and those that we think the less honorable members of the body, we surround with more abundant honor, and our uncomely parts receive a more abundant comeliness,

  24. 24

    whereas our comely parts have no need of it. But God has so tempered the body together in due portion as to give more abundant honor where it was lacking;

  25. 25

    that there may be no disunion in the body, but that the members may have care for one another.

  26. 26

    And if one member suffers anything, all the members suffer with it, or if one member glories, all the members rejoice with it. Christ's Mystical Body

  27. 27

    Now you are the body of Christ, member for member.

  28. 28

    And God indeed has placed some in the Church, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, services of help, power of administration, and the speaking of various tongues.

  29. 29

    Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers?

  30. 30

    Are all workers of miracles? Do all have the gift of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

  31. 31

    Yet strive after the greater gifts.
